  • 1/2 cup white onion, chopped Adds a subtle sweetness and depth.
  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed For that aromatic warmth.
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar Balances sweetness with tanginess.
  • 2 tbsp lime juice A burst of acidity that brightens flavors.
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup Adds depth and counteracts the heat.
  • 1/2 tsp salt Enhances all the ingredients’ natural flavors.
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric Gives a lovely color and earthy flavor.
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional) For a hint of smokiness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a pan over medium heat, sauté the pineapple chunks, chopped onion, smashed garlic cloves, and stemmed habaneros for 4–5 minutes until softened and slightly charred.
  • Transfer the sautéed mixture to a blender. Add the apple cider vinegar, lime juice, honey (or maple syrup), ground turmeric, salt, and smoked paprika if desired. Blend until velvety-smooth.
  • Pour the blended hot sauce into a saucepan and let it simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally to meld flavors and slightly thicken the sauce.
  • Let the sauce cool to room temperature, then pour it into sterilized bottles or jars. Store in the refrigerator for up to one month.
  • Drizzle over favourite dishes like tacos, grilled chicken, seafood, or roasted veggies.

Notes

Adjust heat level by reducing number of habaneros or removing seeds. Experiment with additional spices like ginger or cilantro for unique flavor variations. Serve in decorative bottles for gifts.
