Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into four equal squares.
  • Shape each square into a round nest by folding the edges slightly inward, pinching the sides to create deep wells.
  • Brush the pastry edges with egg wash.
  • Bake the nests for 12-15 minutes until puffy and golden brown.

Cooking the Filling

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it into a crumbly texture.
  • Drain the excess fat and add the finely diced onion and bell pepper, cooking for about three minutes.
  • Mix in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Allow to simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.

Assembly

  • Remove the cooked pastry nests from the oven and spoon the thickened Sloppy Joe mixture into each nest.
  • Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese and return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes.
  • For a shine, brush the edges with melted butter and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Serve warm. Pair with a crisp salad or sweet potato fries. To prevent soggy nests, avoid overfilling them.
