Ingredients

For the pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade) Golden and flaky, forms the base of your dessert.

For the mascarpone mixture

  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract Enhances the flavor of the mascarpone.

For the strawberry filling

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced Sweet and juicy, the star of the show.
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for macerating) Intensifies the strawberry flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Cut the puff pastry into 9 equal rectangles and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush the pieces with the beaten egg and sprinkle lightly with granulated sugar.
  • Place another sheet of parchment paper over the pastry and set a second baking tray on top to prevent puffing during baking.
  • Bake for 15 to 17 minutes until the pastry turns golden brown and crispy. Allow to cool completely.

Mascarpone Mixture

  • In a large bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese until smooth. Gradually add in the heavy cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest. Beat until thickened and fluffy.

Assembling the Napoleon

  • Toss the sliced strawberries with 1 tablespoon of sugar (if desired) and let them sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Place one pastry rectangle on a serving plate, pipe or spoon a layer of mascarpone cream on top, then add strawberries. Repeat with a second layer and cap it with another pastry piece.
  • Dust the top with powdered sugar and garnish with extra strawberry slices or a mint leaf.

Serving

  • Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours before presenting.

Notes

Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor; fresh strawberries make a difference. Serve soon after assembling to prevent sogginess. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
